2023 has been a year of giving back to the communities we work in. Through our K&A Cares initiative, we have been committed to positively impacting the communities we serve. Our employees have volunteered their time and resources to support various worthy causes, and we are proud of their dedication to social responsibility.
Supporting Local Agriculture and Youth Education
Volunteering at Brady Farm, our ELT team demonstrated their commitment to sustainability and community support. This non-profit organization provides affordable access to fresh, local food and educational opportunities for youth and adults. The team spent a day working in the fields, weeding, clearing flower beds, and shoveling around trees, contributing to Brady Farm's mission of promoting healthy eating and sustainable farming practices.
Ensuring Access to Electricity for Those in Need
Recognizing the importance of reliable and affordable energy, K&A Cares donated $2,000 to Power Match, a charitable matching program created by Versant Power in partnership with Penquis CAP. This donation, matched 100% by Versant, will aid with electricity bills to individuals in the Penquis community who do not qualify for traditional assistance programs.
Combating Food Insecurity and Supporting Veterans
Jim Ervin, one of our Senior Electrical Substation Designers, dedicated his community PTO hours to volunteering at Blessings of Hope. This non-profit organization provides food to those in need. Jim's efforts involved packaging rice and dehydrated foods for distribution to disadvantaged families through food pantries, churches, and shelters across the United States and beyond.
In addition, K&A Cares donated a collection of bedding sets, pillows, and backpacks to the Bread of Life Ministries in Augusta, Maine, to support their efforts in assisting homeless veterans.
Healing through Sailing for Veterans
K&A Cares has been a consistent supporter of Warrior Sailing, an organization that provides therapeutic sailing experiences for veterans struggling with PTSD and other mental health challenges. This year, K&A Cares offered financial support to Micheal O'Leary, a talented photographer and US Air Force veteran, who uses his powerful images to convey his journey with PTSD.
Nourishing Children in Need Around the World
K&A Cares extended its reach to children in need worldwide through a volunteering event at Feed My Starving Children, Chicago. Our executive leadership team and team members from our Chicago office packed and assembled nearly 131 boxes of nutritious meals consisting of rice, soy, vegetables, and essential vitamins and minerals. These meals will be distributed to children in need across the globe.
A Commitment to Making a Difference
These are just a few examples of how K&A Cares has contributed to the world beyond business in 2023. We are committed to giving back to our communities and making a difference in the lives of others. We are incredibly proud of our employees for their unwavering dedication to social responsibility and willingness to volunteer their time and resources to make a difference.
As we look towards 2024, we are excited to continue our K&A Cares initiatives and find new ways to support our communities and positively impact the world.
